I'm posting on a burner because I fear my neighbors. We've had a miserable time here, and then a notice went out: rent raising $200 a month. We're out, and we're lucky we have that option.
You may not. Read. Glean wisdom from my pain.
The only star is for the maintenance team. They have always been on time, dependable, and quick. Contact them with any issue.
When moving in, we specially asked if the apartment they were moving us into had an issue with noise and smoking. We were told, several times, that these would be non-issues.
I don't know if the management was lying or uninformed.
We were the sacrifice on their pyer of full capacity, sent in blind to suffer for the price of $1035 a month. What a deal. Not sure all the medical bills have been worth it, though.
Our upstairs neighbor has been unbelievably bad. After moving in, we learned the previous tenants changed apartments because of them. Every bad neighbor thing, they've done it: constant barking dog, flooding, loud guests, fighting. They're basically running a hostel up there. There is constant traffic in and out of their apartment, accompanied always by loud knocking, blaring music, and litter. Our basement apartment patio is pelted with cigaret butts and trash. Weed and cigaret smoke waft into our apartment through the rotting ceiling in the utility closet. I've been aggressively sworn at several times. When I hear someone come down the stairs, I flinch. My nerves are constantly on edge. I fear emerging my apartment, least I am assaulted by my neighbor or their numerous guests.
It's been so bad, it's almost comical. Almost. Misery is only comedy with time. For now, I have horrible migraines from the smells upstairs, live in a sleepless limbo, and feel increasingly unsafe.
I pity anyone who's here with kids.
I don't blame the management in the office. I'm sure they have their own difficult hierarchy to please. Just remember: you may try to make this home, but for them, it's business. They don't live here for a reason. If you can, rent from a smaller conglomerate, something that doesn't have layers and layers of business bureaucracy behind it. Live somewhere the landlord is proud of.
You're looking at this place because you need something cheep. You're desperate- assess how much. If this is the only place you can be, make sure to communicate with management. You may need to over explain the bad situation to enable them to move the red tape and help you. Call the courtesy patrol. Send emails. You may not get a response the first time. If the problem is not resolved, keep communicating. It's exhausting, but so is getting no sleep.
I wish I'd never lived here, but I know one day it will make for a hilarious one-act play. But I'll be much more good humored when I'm not fearful of being verbally assaulted and have a full night's rest.
Best wishes and sleep tight, everybody.
